Alan Etter

Alan Etter was appointed to the DCCCR in 2016. Fulfilling the Commission's mandate to include perspectives from the public safety community, Etter has served in high level leadership positions in District government, including the DC Fire & EMS Department and the city's 911 and 311 agency as well as a lead consultant to the federal First Responder Network Authority, the nation's first broadband network dedicated for first responders.

He has worked as a vice president at the University of the District of Columbia, where he was a force in creating and promoting the university's College of Agriculture, Urban Sustainability and Environmental Sciences. Etter came to Washington as a broadcast news reporter, notably serving as an anchor and reporter at WTOP News, where he received multiple awards for his work. A longtime resident of Ward 6, Etter lives on a boat and participates in countless conservation efforts benefiting the Potomac and Anacostia Rivers as well as the Chesapeake Bay.
